Aniline Leather

Aniline Leather Defined

Aniline leather is not really a type of leather but rather a dye process used primarily on full grain leather hides. The reason that aniline leather is typically associated with full grain leather is that the substance of the aniline dye is clear, enabling the original grain to remain visible after the dying process occurred; however, since the dye is clear, there may be some color variation within the hide.

Very little additional treatments are applied to aniline or full grain leathers, thus aniline leathers retain most of their natural characteristics; as in full grain leather, the aniline leather may show slight natural markings and an inconsistent grain. Another natural characteristic of the leather is that it is porous, enabling the leather to breathe and adapt easily to body temperature. Known for its softness, subtleness and natural beauty, aniline leathers are the most exclusive leathers available in the marketplace.

As in full grain leather, aniline leather is more susceptible to damage from liquids and discoloration from the sun; due to their delicacy and subtleness, aniline leathers are more vulnerable to tearing and scratching as well, so preventive maintenance is important, and  extra care must be exercised on daily use.
